Vance Hartzell, D.Min.

Bio

Vance comes to RHCC from Yorba Linda Friends Church (YLFC) where he served as the Pastor for singles age 30 and up. His primary duties at RHCC includes starting a small group program for singles as well as teaching Sunday morning classes. Since he’s been here Vance started a very successful Friday night “Coffee House” where over 150 singles come each week for a time of bible study, worship, and fellowship.

Vance recognizes that singles (and everyone else) desire to have genuine connections with others. He points to a quote in Dr. Larry Crabb’s book, Connecting, as a description of his ministry philosophy. Crabb says, “The real place of soul care takes place when people at church are truly connecting with one another. This is when the healing power of the Holy Spirit is poured out from one life into another through genuine communication and encouragement.”

Vance, who earned his doctorate and master’s of divinity degrees at the Talbot School of Theology, began his ministry career at Yorba Linda Friends church (YLFC) as the small groups and Sunday school pastor. By the end of his first year, small groups had doubled and attendance in the 15 Sunday school classes had increased by approximately 20 percent. Prior to entering the ministry, Vance, who also has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in marketing, owned an Allstate insurance agency.

Vance was born in Taipei, Taiwan and for the first six years of his life was raised, with a brother, by his single mother. Vance’s mother eventually married a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, who brought the family back to the United States. On August 8, 1980, just before his junior year in high school, Vance acknowledged that he needed to be forgiven of his sins and invited Jesus Christ into his life as Lord and Savior.

Spending time with his family is atop Vance’s list of interests. He’s been married to his wife, Sabrina, for 20 years and has two children. He also is a jogger and a voracious reader
